Violence is Never the Answer

Except for my final product, where my character will probably be engaged in what I'm calling "self defense". After many weeks building the rig, I finally began creating my idle animation for my character, Crystal. By the end of the animating process, I will have a few basic motions such as a walk, attack, and jump, and they will need to end back in the final idle pose. This is why I am doing this motion first, and why it is the most important to get right. The idle animation is meant to be a strong pose with subtle movements, and her body should flow up and down like she is breathing. While I animate, keeping the 12 principles of animation in mind is important, and so far I have been focusing on staging, as well as follow through and overlapping. The base pose needs to be exaggerated, and display the character's attitude, and so I created a boxing-like stance for her. For overlapping, I animated her head to move after the rest of her body, which was then further followed by the hair moving. I will most likely refine the character further this upcoming week, but I believe I am at a good start. I would also like to review my cycle with my mentor before starting the next action, and I want to move through this because there is about a month until my project is due.
