After the lengthy process of getting all the mentor information, I have my first visit with Mr. Barsoum this week. I hope to make sure all the information and dates for the year are clear and that I can get some tips on modeling before I begin it over the Thanksgiving break. I am really looking forward to this mentorship at Playful, and I am incredibly excited to continue my original work and face the pre-production aspects I am not currently skilled at, mainly modeling and rigging. I looked a little more into how to model a cartoon character last week for my research assessment, and I learned the importance of imperfections and keeping a unique design for the character. I know silhouettes are crucial to an appealing character, but it is what goes into creating a silhouette that I got from the article. Imperfections are one of the details that goes into a good model, and asymmetry can make a character look more interesting, so I may look into that for my model. The article also covered posing and their style, which goes into animation, as a character may move or stand in a certain way to represent their character traits. These are all aspects of designing a 3D character that I can keep in mind while getting more technical tips on my meeting this Thursday.
