Minor Setbacks

Writer's picture: Grace SullivanGrace Sullivan

As the due date for the original work quickly approaches, I have been working to finish my model and give it texture before the end of the week. I spent a long time on modeling the head and cleaning up edges on the body. Using video tutorials as a reference for building my character, I almost finished over the weekend. And then Maya crashed and somehow deleted my file on my home computer. Now my goal for this week is to finish the model as much as I can and hopefully get some texturing in. Through the process of modeling the head, I learned many useful things about modeling a figure. My mentor explained the importance of good topology in my model, and I put that to use while modeling the edges in my character's head. I also learned how to combine mesh into one polygon, and also how to flip UVs so that I can easily texture the model. Even though I messed up on saving, I have a much better idea of what I am doing, and through this I should be able to finish the model quicker than my previous attempt. This week I will also meet with my mentor to discuss where I am timewise, and get prepared to begin the skinning and rigging process.
