The Thanksgiving break has given me a chance to finally begin modeling my character. This is where I begin to transfer from Pre-production designs to creating the real 3D version of a character that I will animate. Even though I thought I was prepared, it still came to be a difficult challenge. Before I even started, I had to pitch my character to my mentor to get an understanding of how she will look and move. My character Crystal is a boxing type character, and I learned the importance of developing a character's background, as it gave me a firmer foundation for her design and tough look. After I made the reference art for her dimensions, I then began the modeling process by watching tutorials. Because I have not done a model this complex before, there was some research I needed to do before I jumped right into it. While the videos did help me remember how to set up my references and scale them properly, I decided to go ahead and model the body on my own instead of follow the tutorial that started on the head. The references I made were incredibly helpful to me, and I finished some of it, but I still have a long way to go. My original goal was to get the model done by the end of the break, but now is to finish the model by the end of the week just so I still have time for the more complex processes like texturing and skinning. I am a little nervous if my model will be good enough to use for my animation, but I hope I will be able to use it after I finish.
