I continued my interviews this week by traveling to id Software to meet with senior animator Ray Chase, and I learned how the production process of id compared to Gearbox and ReelFX. Mr. Chase had worked with all three studios, so it was interesting to learn how each of them vary from someone with that experience. It was surprising to me to find out game studios have just the same, if not more, creative freedom than film studios because animators are constantly moving between different shots, but are more technical than films, which I am fine with. Since I have visited my top choices of studios, it is time to decide which one I want to look into for a mentorship. Since ReelFX and id are working on big projects and are farther away, I think Gearbox is the best choice. The challenge with this now is asking someone to be a mentor, because these are all huge studios and there is a likely chance no one will be able to accept. This will be my focus for the week along with continuing to do my assessments, and I hope to find a suitable mentor that will help me in my ISM journey.
