This week I submitted my original work, and before I submitted it, I had my second mentor visit which helped me to see what I could improve on before I submitted it. The biggest changes had to do with edge loops, which would help in the next step of rigging my model, as the character needs to handle joints being moved in certain directions. Making the small adjustments my mentor suggested made the model look much more natural and professional. He also showed me professional examples of character models, and having that comparison allowed me to understand what good edges are and how they affect an animation. After adding loops and adjusting proportions, I finished by adding the hair and submitted the model. However, the biggest issue I faced was that I crunched to get my model base done in time to turn my original work in. Time management has been my biggest problem throughout the year, and I need to keep track of my deadlines if I want to succeed further in the class. Thankfully, from my mentor visit I am more prepared for the next step in the process is UV unwrapping and texturing, and I can prepare for my upcoming assignments as well. I understand this class is a learning process, and not just for my topic, and I now know how to improve meeting deadlines and not be overwhelmed on the due dates. As the winter break approaches I will strive to stay on track for my project.
