This week, as I continue to conduct research interviews, I met with senior animator Dia Hadley at Gearbox Software. In doing so, I felt for the first time that I was truly able to talk about animation specifically in video games with an experienced professional. I was able to ask in-depth questions about his work and find out his opinion of certain processes in animation as well as advice for later education. After these recent interviews at Gearbox, going back and actually playing their most recent release, Borderlands 3, I have a new perspective on how much truly goes into the production of the game, and I am able to see the variety in each asset through how they are animated. This upcoming week, I have what will most likely be my last research interview before I choose a mentor. I plan to focus on reflecting on my Gearbox interviews and writing the interview assessments before then, and afterwards start to decide who I want as a mentor. It was an amazing experience this past week getting to visit one of my favorite game studios, and I am equally excited to visit iD Software and compare the work spaces and get to know more professional animators.
