I was able to have my first visit with my mentor after the Playful layoff, and it was good to discuss what had happened in person with him. I am very thankful Mr. Barsoum is still willing to meet with me and give me great advice about the industry. Through this whole process I've learned how common layoffs can be, but I also learned how to prepare for them in the future. I need to be constantly updating my portfolio and creating reels of the work I'm doing to share with employers. I have already been doing things such as this in ISM, but talking about it made me realize why it is important, as it can happen to anyone. Mr. Barsoum also shared some insight into building a rig and now I have a much clearer idea of the process. He also provided me with a tool that can easily adjust how the mesh reacts to bones. I am very glad I got the chance to understand it better before I jumped into it on my own. I also learned the importance of the rig test, when before I just thought it was to show off the final rig. It is actually created to reveal the rigging mistakes, which the rigging tool can fix. After taking an unnecessarily long break between visits, I actually feel like I understand the process enough and will hopefully have a rig created by the end of the week so that I can move on to animating.
